Sorry this is so late, but here are the great stories from the last night!!
Kai, Assistant Coach, Orange Division- "Last night, I was with my team and we were going to move from one section of the field to another for a scrimmage. So, I suggested we do a congo line. And they thought that was a great idea, then they started doing in and thought it was so cool. So tonight, Payson, my coach, suggested that we do it again to get to the scrimmage. So, we started doing it, and we were like "conga, conga conga!" And then this other team started joining on. So, it was this long line of kids just doing the conga on the field. " Terry, Team Coach, Green Division- "One of the kids was coming in, and I was like "How are you doing? How was your day?" And he said, "It was really good. Me and my sister just practiced what my coach taught me yesterday." So, I was like "That's awesome!" So, he just spent the day with his sister playing soccer, and I thought that was pretty cool." Marvin, Team Coach, Green Division - "I had a kid who was getting ready to leave for the night, and you could tell he was sad. And he comes up to me and says "I'm going to miss you, and I hope we're on the same team next year." And it just hit me right there. So, I said, "I hope we are too" because he was a really good kid. He did everything we asked him to do, and he was great with his teammates. A great kid." Stephanie, Director of Community Building Initiatives, VCO- "And shout out to Marvin. He came with his daughter last year and came up to me and said, "I want to volunteer." So yay, Coach Marvin." Drew, Team Coach, Blue Division- "Someone on my team came up to me and said he couldn't make it the next day. Unfortunately, there was a death in the family. And his family was going to go up to New Hampshire to stay for a few days for the funeral. He ended up showing up today, and I was talking to his mother. She said, "Yeah, he was begging to come to Soccer Nights tonight." He begged his parents to come to Soccer Nights, and they'll go to the funeral tomorrow." Tara, Team Coach Red Division- "I live in Porter Square, and I was walking home last night. So, one of my kid's moms saw me walking, so they yelled at me and said, "Hey! are you going to soccer nights? Do you want a ride?" So, I agreed because it was safe. It was his mom and his little sister. So, don't worry. I rode in the car, and I think it made [name of kid] feel super special to have his coach in the car. And so, it was just really cute because we got to bond. And tonight he made me this really cute card. And it has a rainbow on it and a picture of me with no hair. It says "I love you and you are the best coach. From Martin, To coach." Christina, Lead volunteer, 3-5 year olds- "So today when we were coloring, I had brought over some new crayons. I was sitting with a little girl, and she asked, "Why are some of the crayons new and some of them broken?" So I was explaining to her that I had brought over new crayons. And she goes, "Oh, okay so the crocodiles bit them." And the other kids were like, "No, it was the giraffe, or no it was the alligators." Grant, Lead volunteer, registration- "I don't know if anyone else noticed, but we had this communal square of registration tables. All of our volunteers were back to back, and it was really quaint and cozy. So, we had this great community team bonding experience." Michael, CSM volunteer, registration- "We really appreciate you guys just letting us help out. So, during registration, you get to see the kids for a second and then they leave. But, it was really great to just see the hearts of the volunteers that do registration. Even at the end of the night, there was one boy who had pink eye so he couldn't play. And I'm not trying to dog Grant, but I haven't seen him run all week. He's laid back and calm. But all of a sudden he's running towards me and grabs an ice cream bar. And I see him walk over to the kid and give it to him. And I started to choke up then. Just seeing the heart of everyone here has been really amazing." |
